About the Designer
For over two decades, Maria Tash has revolutionized the fine jewelry and piercing industries by creating innovative designs under her NYC based eponymous label. With a unique perspective that lives at the intersection of beauty, fashion and jewelry, Tash has carved a unique position as a founder, innovator and designer. She has developed a technique through which each client's personal style and anatomy guide a bespoke combination of studs and rings, combined to best flatter the wearer. Art meets science with Tash’s approach to both design and piercing, driven largely by her desire to deliver not only a look but a feeling of beauty to her audience.
A native New Yorker, Tash studied Astronomy at Columbia University before moving abroad to attend Kings College in London. It was there that her love of fine jewelry, which was instilled in her at a young age by her mother, was fused with her passion for piercings. Sensing a void in the market, Tash began her career creating custom navel jewelry, and opened her first studio, Venus Modern Body Art, in 1993 in New York’s East Village.
A designer at heart, Tash's jewelry is defined by its quality, workmanship and innovation. At the core are her Threaded Studs, Clicker Rings and True-fit navel curves, each designed with precision and accuracy for piercing and how they sit on the body. In the pursuit of making her jewelry as flush to the skin as possible, Tash developed invisible set diamonds, which are notched and set below the crown, creating the bezel-less look of a suspended stone. Using 14k and 18k gold as the setting for all styles in her collection, Tash sources white, yellow, rose and black golds and has perfected the art of incorporating stones that appear both intricate yet delicate. The name Maria Tash is now synonymous with curation and self expression; The Curated Ear has come to represent a franchise Tash has made her very own.
Today, Maria Tash and her team of trained experts are at the forefront of the fine jewelry apiercing, having earned a reputation for offering the best in service, and expertise in the curation of individualized styles. The Maria Tash brand is based in New York with worldwide headquarters and its flagship store that opened in 2004. It wasn’t until 2016 that Tash expanded internationally with the opening of a shop at Liberty of London. Following this, the brand has gone on to open piercing and jewelry destinations in Rome (Rinascente), Dublin (Brown Thomas), Harrods of London and most recently the world’s very first piercing destination in the Middle East at the Dubai Mall. With a cult following of celebrities including Rihanna, Zoe Kravitz, Julianne Moore, Jennifer Lawrence and Charlize Theron to name just a few, the brand is the leading destination for influencers, industry insiders and tastemakers around the world.
