MARIA TASH jewelry is sold singly unless otherwise stated. To order a pair, please add two of the items to your cart. Our large earrings are the only items we sell as pairs. These items are pictured as a pair on the product page and the description also states that they are sold as a pair.
Traditional studs are the most common type of earring. To wear, simply insert the earring into your piercing and slide a traditional butterfly backing on to secure the stud in place.They come in one size that fits most Lobe piercings.
Threaded studs have a post with a ballflower or disc at the end that gets inserted through the back of the ear. Then a frontal is screwed on to ensure a snug fit. With post lengths that can be increased or decreased, these versatile pieces work in multiple piercings. Move your frontal to a different location and simply swap out the post.
To find your best fit, we recommend booking a styling appointment with our experts. Everyone's anatomy is unique and our team can help you determine the proper size so you leave feeling comfortable and excited about your new look.
For a list of standard sizes that work for most piercing placements, or if you are shopping for a gift please see our Gifting FAQ for sizing information.
The difference is how they are fitted into a nostril piercing. Nostril screws are typically bent into a horseshoe-like curve and the rounded part creates tension within the nostril, holding the piece in place. Threaded studs feature a frontal that gets screwed into a backing. Nostril screws are easier for wearers to remove and reinstall themselves on a regular basis, while threaded studs provide a more secure fit.
Insert the wearable surface of the backing, which is the post, into your piercing from behind so that the ballflower is on the back of your ear. Then, insert the thread on the frontal into the post at the front of your ear and gently rotate the frontal clockwise to tighten. Continue until the frontal is flush with the post. Given the delicate nature of gold, be mindful not to overturn the frontal as it may damage the screw.
The gauge refers to the overall thickness of an earring's post or a ring. The higher the gauge number the thinner the jewerly is. Our traditional stud earrings and nostril screws are 20 gauge. Our threaded studs and non-rotating clickers are 19ga and we have some 16ga posts available upon request. Our rotating and plain clickers are 18ga and our horizontal clickers are 16ga or 14ga. All navel pieces are 14ga.
20g = 0.8mm
19g = 0.9mm
18g = 1.0mm
16g = 1.2mm
14g = 1.6mm
If you have any questions about your gauge size or about a specific piece, please reach out to cs@mariatash.com.

All of our piercings are performed with single use sterile needles rather than piercing guns. We do not use piercing guns as they are not very accurate and cannot be properly sterilized.
We recommend no more than four piercings per session, but this depends on the placements and your anatomy and can be subject to change based on your piercer's recommendation.
The piercing is completed in less than half a second. Pain is, of course, relative. Some people report feeling no pain at all. Others say it hurst less than waxing, stubbing a toe or a shot at the doctor. Rest assured, we do everything we can to ensure a brief, pleasurable piercing experience.
A small amount of bleeding the first day or two is normal especially when you are cleaning your piercing. If you are experiencing more excessive bleeding, please contact your piercer.
Yes, but please refer to the Piercing Age by Location chart on ourJewelry/Piercing FAQpage. A client who is under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian and both must bring valid IDs. If the parent/legal guardian and child have different surnames, we require further identification to confirm guardianship i.e. a birth certificate.
Yes — you are welcome to be pierced with your existing MARIA TASH jewelry. To ensure it meets our safety standards for initial piercings, the piece must go through our comprehensive multi-step cleaning and sterilization process. This includes a cold soak disinfection, enzyme scrub, and a full STATIM autoclave sterilization cycle. Please allot extra time prior to your piercing service.
A fee applies in select locations: New York, Los Angeles, the UK, France, and Dubai.
If you have a rash, burn, broken skin, or sunburn in the piercing area, you must wait until the skin has healed before you can get pierced.
If you are being pierced by us, we politely request that you refrain from consuming alcohol until after your appointment for health and safety reasons. We will not pierce and individual who is visibly intoxicated. Alcohol can cause blood thinning and may lead to excess bruising or swelling.
We recommend you come in six weeks after your new piercing for a complimentary checkup to ensure your piercing is healing properly and, if you were pierced with a stud, to see if you are ready for a downsize.
Clean your piercing until it is fully healed, which can take several months depending on the placement and your body. To clean, apply a pre-soaked saline wipe or sterile saline spray on non-woven sterile gauze and use a gentle compress for five minutes, morning and evening. Do this no more than twice a day. Moisture can lead to bacteria, so we recommend drying the area well with sterile non-woven gauze or using the cold setting on a hairdryer.
Discover more aftercare information here, click for piercing aftercare.
Do not clean your piercing with chemicals such as alcohol, Neosporin, or Bactine as these products could cause irritation. Instead, use sterile saline wipes or sterile saline spray on non-woven sterile gauze. Visit our Aftercare Guide for more information.
Treat fresh piercings as gently as possible; this will help you heal more quickly and easily. Always remember to wash your hands thoroughly with antibacterial soap before touching your healing piercing. See ourAftercareGuide for more information.
It is ok to go to the gym after getting pierced, just remember to follow the aftercare advice outlined by your piercer.
Sleeping on piercings can be painful, cause healing complications, and can shift the alignment of your piercing. If possible, use a travel pillow and suspend your ear in the center opening while you sleep.
We advise waiting six to eight weeks to go swimming after an initial piercing. Avoid swimming in lakes or ponds while your piercing heals, as these bodies of water may contain bacteria that can interfere with the healing process.
Every client heals at a different rate and healing times change based on piercing location. Speak to your piercer about healing time for your particular piercing, or consult the healing time chart in ourPiercing Guidefor a general idea of how long your piercing will take to heal.
For most individuals, Earlobe piercings tend to stay open without jewelry in place after a year or more, while cartilage piercings can take considerably longer. There are no definitive rules for how long it takes for a piercing to stay open, so be cautious and reach out to one of our piercers or stylists if you have questions.
We do not pierce clients who are pregnant, as any infection that could possibly occur within the parent’s piercing can be transferred to the child.
Discoloration can occur when chemicals, lotions, or sweat come in contact with your jewelry. To remove, gently scrub the gold with a soft polishing cloth. If the polishing cloth does not work, please reach out to our team atcs@mariatash.comand we will be able to assist you.

Those under the age of 18 must be accompanied by their legal guardian. Both child and legal guardian must have a valid photographic ID or equivalent with them on the day (e.g. passport, driver’s license, birth certificate). If the child and legal guardian’s last names are different, proof of guardianship must also be presented (passport, birth certificate etc.). A valid photographic ID or equivalent must be required for proof of age. If you are unable to present a physical ID for either yourself or the child, our team has the right to cancel or reschedule your appointment for a different time when the requested documents can be presented.
All of our piercings are performed with sterile, single-use needles instead of a piercing gun. Needles open a small space in the ear tissue, a method that limits swelling and scarring in the surrounding area. Because needles are so precise, they help us execute complicated placements that cannot be done with a bulky gun. Needles also allow us to use different types of jewelry in your piercing, rather than limiting it to studs. In all, they provide a gentler, more artful piercing experience.
We recommend a traditional stud, threaded stud, or plain ring for an initial piercing. Our expert team of stylists can offer assistance in choosing the right piece.

If you opt for a Threaded Stud a 6.5mm post length works well for most piercings. If you would like to buy a threaded stud for a specific piercing location, we recommend the following post sizes.
High or Stacked Lobe: 6.5mm
Helix: 6.5mm
Conch: 6.5mm
Tash Rook: 5mm
Tragus: 6.5mm
Forward Helix: 5mm
Nostril: 6.5mm
Earlobe, piercing 1 and 2: 6.5mm
Earlobe, piercing 3 and up: 5mm
If you would like to buy a hoop for a specific piercing location, we recommend the following diameter sizes.
Earlobe, piercing 1 and 2: 8mm
Earlobe, piercing 3 and up: 6.5mm
Helix: 8mm
Conch: 11mm
Tragus: 6.5mm
Forward Helix: 5mm
Hoops and traditional studs are great gifts because there is less guesswork required when it comes to choosing the right size. If you are purchasing a stud for an Earlobe piercing, traditional earrings will fit most wearers. If you are purchasing a hoop, an 8mm size works well for most piercings. For further fit information, clickhere,
Traditional Ear Studs are the most common type of earring. Traditional earrings make for great gifts because they come in one size that fits most Lobe piercings. To wear, simply insert the earring into your piercing and slide a traditional butterfly backing on to secure the stud in place.
Threaded Studs are made of two parts — a long, tube-like earring post, and a frontal that screws on and off the post. These pieces are versatile because the frontal can be screwed onto many different length posts. We recommend purchasing threaded studs as gifts only for cartilage piercings.
Yes, you can add a gift message at checkout that will be handwritten by our staff and sent with your card.
